Flood of Red, House vs Hurricane, Heights and Continents on the Flood vs Hurricane tour

24 Nov 2010 | 1 comment »

6th November 2010

Party Naked brought a corker of a night (albeit last minute) to The Green Rooms …

Continents, always great, we always rave about this band because every time they play, they are awesomely good.  Establishing the night well, they have introduced a sampler from hell which certainly adds a new dimension to their sound. Check them out here : http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/Continentsband

Heights up next, Heavy sounding and very energetic with all the members of the band (with the obvious exception of the drummer) all over the dance floor.  These guys are touring extensively and embark on a tour of Asia in 2011.   This 5 piece band hailing from Hartfordshire, definitely put everything they have into live shows.  Check them out here :   http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/weareheights

House vs. Hurricane, This band came as a surprise.  I very rarely put too personal an opinion into  my blogs, but it has to be said on this occasion as this band stood out as the most interesting and were definitely my favorites of this tour.  They are hardcore, but their interludes makes them stand out from the traditional hardcore crowd. the combination of crazy samples running though songs and  the keys definitely add a different element and kicked the crowd off into two stepping action.  These guys brought the house down.  Check them out here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/housevshurricane

Flood of Red, Certainly different to anything else on this line-up and I’m not exactly sure how they fit in on this bill except for the flood vs Hurrcane clever play on words, that said I did enjoy them.  A crazy band with two drummers, the first drummer just drums whilst the other drummer switches between drums, keyboard, singing and playing the tambourine.  These guys have gone more mellow in recent times and it seems they have changed direction to their previous heavier sounds – still they combine mellow vocals with some heavy tunage and the occasional scream.  They are a band who are very talented and incredibly tight.  Check them out here :  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/floodofred

SausageFest!

22 Nov 2010 | no comments »

22nd Nov 2010

Party Naked Presented SausageFest, a hardcore meal extravaganza run this time by Al Nash alone, and he didn’t disappoint!

After a couple of line up changes to this gig,  This Concept kicked the night off in mighty-fine form.  Everyone always seems to enjoy this local band and everyone knows the words to their songs.  They are certainly getting their name around and have released a new EP which is now available for free download.  Check them out here:  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/This-Concept/357891021174?v=wall

Traitors up next, top guys and we never get bored of them!  As it says in their info – they combine busting breakdowns and pacey riffs, which is true and their front-man Paul is always incredibly entertaining.  What more can be said?  Awesome guys, Awesome band and they are always a joy to have playing at The Green Rooms.   Check them out here:  www.myspace.com/traitorspulltriggers

Continents, a band that are rapidly becoming legendary in their own right, they seemed poised for success – Tearing up the place, the pit went wild with human pyramid action, a crazy wall of death and flying limbs almost everywhere!  They tested out a few new unnamed songs and this gig demonstrated just how much everyone always seems to love this band.  Check them out here:  http://www.continentsband.com/

This Distance, With a new CD just out it was the first time for these welsh boys playing on a line up with Desolated and Tides of Virtue, but they didn’t let us down.   This band do old school hardcore very well, angry vocals and intertwined melodic guitars with vicious beatdowns.  They are writing for their second release which is due out in 2o11.   Check them out here: http://www.myspace.com/thisdistanceuk

Desolated, always a joy to watch, We never get bored of this band.  Heavy as hell and completely awesome The Green Rooms went completely wild,  with everyone moving, some crazy pit action and some stage diving it was mental!  They are a crazy band to watch live and thoroughly entertaining.  This is one of the heaviest bands we have had at The Green Rooms and completely sum up the term  ‘Deathcore’.  We’ll be looking forward to getting them back in April.  Check them out here :  http://www.myspace.com/desolatedmetal

Headliners,  Tides of Virtue started their set with a wicked intro and were completely brutal from the word go.  With their new line-up they seemed tighter and heavier than ever.  Technical riffs, impossible solos and crushing drums made for one awesome set.  Their debut album ‘Malevolence’ is out now on Transcend records.  Check them out here :   http://www.myspace.com/tidesofvirtue

Preachers First Sermon…

19 Nov 2010 | no comments »

2nd July 2010

The 2nd July saw a Metaltastic evening, comprising three super-talented local bands and one incredibly awesome band from Birmingham.

Starting the night in high energy madness were the ever-enjoyable heavy rockers ‘Electric Furnace’.  The lead singer and guitarist got the crowd revved up and singing along, by rolling around the floor and playing the guitar with his teeth.  Always an entertaining band to watch with catchy well put together songs.  They finished their energetic set with a super-fast version of ‘Paranoid’.  They have recently recorded and released their EP – so go and get your hands on it now.  Check them out here-  http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/electricfurnace

SDR up next, an instrumental four-some, who (I have heard on the grape-vine, have recently found themselves a singer).   I was a little confused at first (it doesn’t take a lot to confuse me) as I thought they were playing a really long intro, but I was busy and didn’t immediately catch on that they were an instrumental band (silly me). This heavy quartet, are a tight band that play intricate riffs and show off their fast paced guitar work.  There wasn’t much said between songs, but they are a great band to see live. They are doing really well as they are also currently number one in the UK reverbnation metal charts!  Check them out here  http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/bridgend

Slab were up as main support and can only be described as awesomeness from Birmingham!  They are a heavy, noisy, three piece who are fast intricate, tight and effortless on stage.  They look like they really enjoy playing live and look like they have been playing together forever.  They are very different to anything else with  angry gutteral screams, I struggled to put these into a genre and I can only describe them as the heavier side of Pantera with much heavier vocals.   These guys have an album under their belts and have recently released en even heavier EP, its really good.  Check them out here

http://uk.myspace.com/ontheslab/

Preacher -  it was their first gig and they headlined and proved that they are already good enough to be a headline act. All members of this band have been in experienced bands before and have come together like some awesome super-group to form this metal group with a  progressive edge, again another band which cannot easily be placed in a genre,  but sounds a bit like a progressive  Killswitch which is apt, as they played a cover of a Killswitch song.  Their songs are very technically orientated with good strong clear vocals from the lead singer, and some awesome playing from some very talented musicians.  A great live band with an incredible stage presence, made more entertaining by James (the keyboardist)  solo and the guitarists (Gav) trousers of power, and Dave’s (guitarist) backing vocals from the corner of the stage and a beyond hard hitting drummer (Max) who plays as if he is playing Wembley!.  Hopefully there will be something released by these guys soon, but definitely a band to see live.  Check them out here : http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Preacher/109011819119051

Criatura, Right Turn Blind, Against Fate and Angelburn

28 Sep 2010 | no comments »

26th June 2010

First support for the night was the bright young things Angelburn, a great new band with a great sound and great potential if they keep working hard!  Gentle vocals over a background of riffiness, the lead singer has a distinctive voice that definitely stands out as something a bit different and great guitar work, and play great together.  Check them out here!

Against fate, blasted into hardcore heaviness after a long into.  They kicked off the crowd which ended up looking more like a wrestling match than a mosh pit!  The lead singer of this band may be small but can’t half belt out a big sound.  Heavy and brutish with some awesome headbanging.  A thoroughly enjoyable band that got the crowd moving.  Check them out here!

Right Turn Blind up next, they play metal with no mess and no fuss, a massively experienced band who know how to play to a crowd.  Hard hitting drums, banging bass and straight-edge riffing guitars, they are three really talented guys.  Owain commonly known as ‘Swine’ (we are not too sure why either) is an excellent front man, and their crazy drummer Max is always entertaining to watch.  They finished with ‘Pound of Flesh’ and were asked for more by the crowd.  Check them out here!

The awesome Criatura finished the night with their new singer Tucker, they are more brutal than ever.  All incredibly talented guys to the point of being ridiculous.  The crowd loved them and begged for more.  They are an unusual band- quiet and reserved off stage but full on mental when they hit the stage.  Their drummer who looks tiny behind the drum kit roars out some giant vocals whilst bashing out some complex beats, their lead singing roaming the crowd, the guitarist and bassist are awesome and play some really intricate stuff and their keyboardist who is quite frankly amazing to watch with his awesome keyboard skills and circle headbanging.  Check them out here!

A night set up by the awesome Bee to the Itch!

17 Sep 2010 | no comments »

25th June 2010

Bee to the Itch kicked off a night that they organized – getting together a fantastic line up they showed that they are both an awesome band and great promoters!

First thing that can be said about this band is that they are truly mental to listen to with their offkey craziness.  A bit like early Nirvana but much, much heavier.  They are what you would expect from a grunge-punk group – they hit hard, they play hard and they play beaten up instruments that are held together with tape.  A great live band that not only have some really interesting original materiel and are thoroughly energetic to watch.  Check them out here!

The Shortcuts were up next, they play fast paced traditional punk with guttural punk vocals.  They kicked off their second song with a ska interlude before introducing themselves.  They are a band that is awesome to see live and you can tell that they a solid band that seem like they have been playing together for years.  Nice guys, proper punk!  Check them out here

Clay Statues finished the night off, with their beat punk sound which manages to combine only drum, bass and vocals to make songs that are catch, beat-y, dancey and angry (angry pop is the only description I can come up with here!)  An awesome two-some that have a great stage presence and make awesome songs -get their ep ‘Yay Volcano’ and check them out here!

Birthday Bash for Leadbeater’s Darren!

16 Sep 2010 | no comments »

19th June 2010

An intimate Birthday gig for Darren of Leadbeater fame!  It was also Leadbeaters first proper gig together and completely embodied the punktastic-ness of the night.  An awesome band, who for a first gig together were awesomely good!  Always a pleasure to have them at The Green Rooms!

Clay Statues headlined – always a joy to have these guys here as well, thoroughly nice guys with incredibly catchy tunes, they are a mental 2-piece and performed their crowd pleaser ‘Cake’ 2o times for the crowd.

An awesome night with everyone in a great party mood!
Sorry but we forgot our camera this evening so there are no photos!

Quick Sets!

12 Sep 2010 | no comments »

11th June saw the first of many ‘Quick Sets’ night at The Green Rooms.  This was a night set up to allow both new and experience bands to play a three song set without the pressure of a full gig and allows all genres to get up and play in the same room and appreciate other bands and styles, it also gives bands that are use to playing covers etc, to demonstrate their songwriting skills by playing originals and for new bands to get some confidence on stage – we try to make it a more relaxed affair with some free food and a ‘get-together’ atmosphere!

Kicking off our first night were the bands below, we’d like to say a big ‘thankyou’ to the all for getting this off the ground and for throwing themselves into it!

Burbs – First ever gig with the current line-up, rock covers band

Flashback 4 – Usually an awesome covers band that showed that they can also do some amazing originals

BST – A wickedly different and amazingly talented Jazz-fusion band

Gung Ho – Punktastic originals from an awesome band!

Leadbeater – 2pc portion of Leadbeater performing their wicked shouty punk

Minor Character – Acoustic band with some amazingly cleaver song writing ability

The Awesome Puss Puss Band – Acoustic duo banging out some ace originals

Default Notice – Local rock band mixing it up with some covers and originals, always get the crowd going

Shortcuts – Punk, punk and more punk!

Electric Furnace – Heavy rock metal threesome

A wicked night was  had by all and we’ll be looking to do the next one at the end of July!

Blackwaters, Gun Smoke City and One Track Mind at The Green Rooms

31 Aug 2010 | no comments »

29th May 2010

Starting the night in fine-punk fashion were the Pop punk-esq One Track mind.  If you take a look at their bio on their Myspace site- they don’t take themselves too seriously which is great- but they are a good live band!  Boppy music  that you can jig along to with a few classic punk covers like  Green Day ‘In the end’ and a new song which stood out called ‘Back to you’ they are certainly entertaining and got the crowd singing along.  Finishing on a high with a pop-punk version of  ‘I believe I can Fly’ they started the night well for the other bands!  Check them out here!

Gun Smoke City up next- Good commercial sounding (and I say that in a good way!) Lost Prophets with a pop punk edge is the only way to describe this band.  Hailing from Newport it was their first time back after 6 months of writing and recording.  You might know them better as ‘Panz Agenda’ but with a fresh start they are now called Gun Smoke City.  They are an energetic, entertaining band to watch and they have played alongside some big acts such as Wheatus and The Automatic and are quickly gaining a bigger better fan base with their new line-up and name change.  Check them out here!

Blackwaters headlined the night kicking off their set with a heavy rock version of ‘Boom! Shake the room’ they are a very experienced band with excellent fret-work. They do rock-edge covers intermingled with originals.  They came back to the Green Rooms with a new singer and are obviously a close knit band that play well together.  They played a brand new song for us called ‘Robin Hood’ and ended the night on a high with ‘Summer of 69′ which got the crowd dancing.  Check them out here!

Sorry, we forgot our camera – so there are no photos of this gig!   If you have any of this gig that you would like put on our website send them to us at thegreenrooms@live.co.uk

Liberty Lies, OXP, Naughty Thoughts and Default Notice!

23 Aug 2010 | no comments »

22nd May 2010

Kicking off a night of good ol’ classic rock were the awesome Default Notice. It was their first gig and they gave a truly wicked performance  – they appeared to be brimming with confidence and seemed completely unfazed with the fact that it was their first ever gig.  They got the crowd seriously warmed up with their classic catchy rock sounds, playing their own original material and throwing in a few crowd-pleaser covers such as ‘Hard to handle’ and demonstrating that they are also talented musicians with  some wicked guitar solos and an awesome drum solo.  Check them out here!

Naughty thoughts were up next, amazing as always!  Awesome to watch with their effortless style of playing, their soloing is brilliant.  They have an nice bluesy rock sound and are not only mesmerizing but incredibly talented.  It seems to be taking off for the Naughty thoughts as they are gigging more and more.  They sum up what a rock band should be – they jam between song, they write amazing stuff and they are great live.  Check them out here!

Oxp were the penultimate support forLiberty Lies, they are French and they are Awesome, they play 70′s classic rock the way is should be played.  Awesome guitar effects from a rack of pedals and excellent rock-vocals ranging from tender to screaming.  They have a great stage presence, they are high energy and they give it their all!  Check them out here

Liberty Lies, the headliners who had traveled all the way from the West Midlands for the night were amazing.   Motley Crue-esq rock n roll they combine both classic and new styles of rock and are thoroughly enjoyable to watch.  They covered an excellent version of ‘Careless Whisper’ in a  a rock style.  Awesome vocals, awesome musicians, really nice guys and thoroughly entertaining – we could have watched them all night and we hope to get them back in the future.  Check them out here!
